AMD FSR 3 frame generation coming soon to popular PlayStation Plus game with frame rate improvements for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles
Immortals of Aveum has been around for a few months now, having been released in late August 2023 to mixed reviews. Since then, the game has been added to the PlayStation Plus service, details of which we have covered separately. Now, Ascendant Studios has confirmed to Eurogamer that all console versions of Immortals of Aveum will soon receive AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 (FSR 3) support as of version 1.0.6.4.
Supposedly arriving in the next few weeks, the update will see Immortals of Aveum joining Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora as the only games that offer AMD FSR 3 on consoles. So far, Immortals of Aveum has lacked a quality visual mode of any sort. Instead, the game has targeted 60 FPS in all cases, with numerous visual issues as a result. Specifically, Digital Foundry noted that Immortals of Aveum is locked to a 720p rendering resolution on both the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 (curr. $499.99 on Amazon).
Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether AMD FSR 3 can mitigate this low rendering resolution. With that being said, the technology effectively doubles frame rates through frame generation without increasing input latency. Thus, it should be possible to maintain current visual quality while reducing overall system usage. Consequently, there is potential for Ascendant Studios to utilise AMD FSR 3 in other areas. Software version 1.0.6.4 will also introduce support for HDR monitors and improve support for variable frame rates (VRR), thereby mitigating image tearing and maximising gameplay smoothness.
