You pay extra for these "Ultra features": All Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Ultra) specs leaked

A leaker has already revealed key specs for Samsung's new iPhone Ultra competitor. We still know way less about the new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the real successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7 which—thanks to the “Ultra” designation—can now be sold at a premium price point. In reality, Samsung has essentially neutered the more compact foldable to the bare essentials. Nevertheless, the wider form factor will probably be popular and the new display technology officially unveiled as “Flex Titanium” is certainly a welcome addition if it leads to a more robust foldable with better crease control, as Samsung claims.
Galaxy Z Fold8: Technical Specifications
According to Roland Quandt of Winfuture, Samsung is using a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel with a resolution of 2,448 x 1,848 pixels and 120 Hz refresh rate in a 4:3 aspect ratio. The 5.5-inch cover display also features a Dynamic AMOLED 2x panel with 120 Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,972 x 1,248 pixels. The dual-camera setup has clearly been scaled back. Not only is the Galaxy Z Fold7’s 3x telephoto missing, but the 200-megapixel sensor isn’t included here either.
Instead, there’s a 50-megapixel camera with OIS and an f/1.8 aperture, according to another leaker, a 1/1.56-inch ISOCELL GNG. The only upgrade is the 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/1.9 aperture. Previously, it was limited to a 12-megapixel shooter. The two selfie cameras are 10-megapixel cameras with an f/2.2 aperture.
The battery isn’t too bad for such a compact foldable—at 4,800 mAh with 45-watt fast charging, it’s still an upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which has 4,400 mAh and 25 watts of fast charging. Wireless charging is supported, but the 1,200 charge cycles listed in the EPREL EU-database are on the low side. Under the hood is a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy with 12 GB of RAM and 256, 512 GB, or 1 TB of storage. The 1 TB model comes with 16 GB of RAM.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 in its exclusive color
Thanks to the leak of an internal presentation by an Australian retailer the “Pistachio” color option for the Galaxy Z Fold 8—available exclusively through Samsung’s online store—was already shown once. Android Headlines added more pictures of the light green color option in official press images. Alternatively, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will be available in Graphite, Cream, and Lavender . Measuring 16.14 x 12.39 x 4.5 mm, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to be the thinnest compact foldable of the year and roughly the same size as Apple’s iPhone Ultra, expected in September. It weighs 202 grams and is IP48-rated for water and limited dust resistance, In Europe it will start from 1,999 Euros, in Australia from $2,699 and in the USA from $1,899.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Specs
The direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold7 has now turned into an "Ultra" foldable and will start at 2,199 euros in Europe, $2,999 in Australia and in $2,099 the US. While no downgrades are expected here, the "Ultra" upgrades are also fairly limited. Definitely worth mentioning is the new 8-inch display, which Samsung says is a new AMOLED panel that will also be significantly sharper with a resolution of 2,504 x 2,256 pixels. By comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold7 had a resolution of 2,184 x 1,968 pixels. The aspect ratio remains the same at 3:2, and little has changed with the 6.5-inch cover display either. Both are, of course, dynamic displays with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.
In addition to the 200-megapixel main camera with an f/1.7 aperture and the 3x telephoto with a 10-megapixel sensor and f/2.4 aperture, there is now a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/1.9 aperture, while the selfie cameras remain at 10-megapixel sensors with an f/2.2 aperture. Given the increased space available, the 5,000 mAh battery with 45-watt charging speed is less ambitious; competitors from China tend to offer 7,000 mAh batteries. At least the IP48-rated housing has become slightly thinner and now measures 4.1 mm instead if 4.2 mm. Samsung will, by the way, tout a 51-hour battery life—significantly longer than its predecessor’s—but the 1,200 charge cycles listed on EPREL are still rather low here as well.
As with its compact sibling, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy provides all the processing power, paired with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB of storage—the latter will be combined with 16 GB of RAM again. The glass-aluminum body with titanium layers beneath the display will weigh 218 grams, slightly more than its predecessor. In addition to the colors Graphite, Cream, and Violet Shadow, Samsung is offering the exclusive colors Green Shadow aka Violet Green.
