The Motorola Edge 70 Max is one of only a handful of Android smartphones that support magnetic Qi2 chargers. Combined with its massive 7,100 mAh battery, this premium mid-range smartphone achieves a top-notch score in the DxOMark battery test.

The Motorola Edge 70 Max was officially unveiled a few hours ago, and now DxOMark has already been able to test its battery life as well as both wired and wireless charging. As the 7,100 mAh battery already suggested, the Edge 70 Max achieves a relatively long runtime and, with 160 points, ranks sixth on the DxOMark battery leaderboard.

The Motorola Edge 70 Max trails the leader, the Honor 400 Smart 5G, by eight points, but is still 26 points ahead of the slightly older Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max. The combination of Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and a 7,100 mAh battery enables significantly longer battery life compared to the thinner Motorola Edge 70 ($529 on Amazon). DxOMark estimates four days of battery life with moderate use, and even with heavy use, two and a half days should be achievable.

Specifically, DxOMark measured a battery life of 31:25 hours during phone calls, 10:10 hours while using the camera, 29:47 hours while using social media apps, and an impressive 20:59 hours while gaming. A full charge via a USB-C cable takes 70 minutes. This is because the advertised 90 watts is only achieved for a few minutes before charging is throttled to 30 to 40 watts to prevent the battery from overheating.

Once the battery reaches 80 percent charge, the charging power is gradually reduced further to preserve the battery. When charging wirelessly on a magnetic Qi2 charger, the advertised 25 watts is maintained almost continuously until the smartphone reaches 90 percent charge, after which the power is reduced. A wireless charge from 0 to 80 percent takes 72 minutes. A full charge to 100 percent takes a total of 107 minutes.
