The Shelly Wave Door/Window Long Range, or the Wave Door/Window LR, is now available in North America and Europe. This smart home device is designed to detect an open or closed window or door. It can then alert the user or trigger a linked device.
Shelly’s Wave Door/Window LR could be used to intelligently adjust the heating or air conditioning when a window is opened, or for alerts when a door or window is opened when you are away from home. It is a Z-Wave Long Range (ZWLR) sensor, supporting 864 MHz (ZWLR) and 868.4 MHz (Z-Wave Plus) frequencies, to communicate over distances of up to 1.0 mile (~1.6 km) in line of sight. It can also measure the tilt angle of windows or doors, and has a built-in light sensor for illumination measurements.
The Wave Door/Window LR is a wireless device that should run for around two years on the accompanying CR2032 battery. Shelly suggests that it is relatively easy to set up thanks to the SmartStart feature, and users can expect to get over-the-air (OTA) updates in the future. It is worth noting that users will require a smart home hub for this Z-Wave Plus device. The sensor is relatively compact, measuring 35 x 35 x 7 mm (~1.38 x 1.38 x 0.27 inches) with a white body.
You can now buy the Shelly Wave Door/Window LR at the brand’s online store in countries like the US, the UK and the Netherlands for $32.00/£28.80/€38.72. For context, the older Shelly BLU Door/Window sensor currently retails for $19.99 (Amazon US).
