New rumours have emerged about Sony's rumoured Smart TV releases. Initially, The Walkman Blog discovered a patent for 'True RGB', which Sony was granted in Canada and Japan a few months ago. While the name alone does not shed any light on its usage, the ensuing patent document outlines Sony's intentions to use it exclusively in televisions. Moreover, True RGB utilises blue, green and red LEDs to enhance brightness, contrast ratios and colour accuracy over conventional LED TVs.
Allegedly, True RGB will arrive first across three Bravia 7 II and Bravia 9 II Smart TVs apiece. According to popular Bilibili account Salivaxiu Zhang, these will take the form of 75-inch and 85-inch models for series, as well as a 65-inch option for the Bravia 7 II plus a 98-inch Bravia 9 II edition. Reportedly, Bravia 7 II TVs will utilise 5,100 mini LED local dimming zones to achieve between 2,000 and 2,500 nits peak brightness. In comparison, 15,000 local dimming zones are said to feature inside all Bravia 9 II Smart TVs for up to 4,000 nits peak brightness.
Currently, Sony is expected to introduce the Bravia 7 II and Bravia 9 II series in early 2026. Based on past performance, we expect to see the company replacing the Bravia 5 series too, which comes in multiple sizes, including 55-inch and 65-inch variants (curr. $998 on Amazon). Potentially, these will debut around the time that Samsung releases new OLED Smart TVs too.
