Ultimea, a brand some readers may recognise, recently launched a new sound system called the Skywave X70, available from retailers like Amazon for around $700. As is typical in this price bracket, the package includes not only a soundbar but also a subwoofer and two satellite speakers. The 7.1.4 system supports Dolby Atmos, potentially enabling convincing spatial audio reproduction. Whilst the system doesn’t require wired connections for audio transmission, the subwoofer and two satellites still rely on cables for power.
The Skywave X70 has four upfiring drivers, a fairly common design in sound systems of this type. It is rated at 980 watts, though this figure refers to its peak rather than sustained output. The subwoofer measures 10 inches across, whilst the other speakers all have a diameter of 2.25 inches. Ultimea claims a frequency response of 20 to 20,000 Hz, a signal-to-noise ratio above 75 dB, and less than 1% distortion.
Connectivity options include HDMI eARC, a USB port, an optical audio input, and Bluetooth 5.4. The system comes with a remote control featuring a dedicated button for Xupmix – a technology designed to convert standard stereo content into immersive surround sound – but its real-world effectiveness remains to be seen.
