The Pill by Shelly has been released in Europe. This is a compact smart home product that can be used to turn regular sensors and other low-voltage peripherals into smart devices. For example, it offers plug and play compatibility with external DS18B20 digital temperature sensors or DHT22 digital humidity and temperature sensors.
Other more advanced peripheral modes include analog sensor input, digital input/output and a solid state relay add-on. Shelly suggests that you could use The Pill to monitor the temperature from up to five points in a pool or water tank. It could also be used to keep an eye on environmental conditions in spaces like a greenhouse, a warehouse or a server cabinet.
The gadget supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and it can act as a Bluetooth gateway for Shelly BLU devices like the Shelly BLU Door/Window (curr. $15.99 at Amazon). It offers Shelly Gen3 functionality and is powered by a 5V USB-C input. According to the specs sheet, it will operate in temperatures between -20 °C and 40 °C (-5 and 105 °F) and humidity levels from 30 to 70% RH. It has a white plastic casing, measuring 26.0 x 19.95 x 8.5 mm (~1.02 x 0.79 x 0.34 inches) and weighing 3 g (~0.11 oz).
You can now buy The Pill by Shelly at the brand’s online store in Europe for €9.98, with all orders shipped from the EU. It is unclear when this product could be released in the US.
