Samsung Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 laptop review - The large OLED convertible benefits from Intel Lunar Lake
Now a Copilot+ PC.
Samsung has given its large 16-inch Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 convertible the latest Lunar Lake processor from Intel, which comes with lots of advantages. Apart from this, the device continues to boast a slim case as well as an impressive 120-Hz AMOLED display.Andreas Osthoff, 👁 Andreas Osthoff (translated by Daisy Dickson) Published 🇩🇪 🇫🇷 ...
Verdict - The Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 has more stamina thanks to Lunar Lake
The Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 remains a slim and high-quality 16-inch convertible in its 5th generation. Although its new Intel Lunar Lake processor doesn't deliver much more performance overall than before, users still get to benefit from less fan activity and noticeably longer battery life. As a Copilot+ PC, it additionally supports the advanced Windows AI functions. Another upgrade is its Wi-Fi 7 module.
Its case is unchanged, so it still features the same high quality as before. There are enough ports and both the AMOLED panel and the speakers are excellent. The laptop's keyboard suffers somewhat from its low travel, but the touchscreen and the included S-Pen work very well.
The main disadvantages are its non-expandable RAM and high-end price. Just over $1,800 for a Core Ultra 5, 16 GB RAM and a 512-GB SSD is certainly no bargain. The HP Spectre x360 with a Meteor Lake processor remains a very good alternative, especially if you're also on the hunt for a better keyboard. The performance of its AMD processor is additionally higher, while its battery runtimes are shorter.

Samsung has updated its large 16-inch convertible, now equipping the new Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 with a new Lunar Lake processor from Intel. This should result in advantages when it comes to efficiency as well as battery performance in particular. In addition, it is now officially a Copilot+ PC with advanced AI functions. Nothing has changed about its large AMOLED touchscreen, and an S-Pen is still included in its scope of delivery. Our test configuration with the Core Ultra 5 226V, 16 GB RAM and a 512-GB SSD costs just over $1,800.
Specifications
Differences compared to the Galaxy Book4 Pro 360
Compared to the Galaxy Book4 Pro 360, nothing has changed about its case and connectivity, meaning you still get a high-quality 16-inch convertible with a super slim thickness of only 12.8 mm. Its dark gray metal surfaces don't attract that many fingerprint marks and from a quality perspective, we have nothing to moan about. Only the wide bottom part of the frame surrounding the display feels a little out of place and leads to the case being relatively deep. The bottom cover is easy to remove (the screws are hidden under the rubber feet) and you can access the fans, the battery and the M.2 2280 SSD. All other components, on the other hand, are soldered on.
Along with a new processor, its WLAN module has also been updated—the new BE201 module from Intel supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Its 1080p webcam supports the advanced Studio functions, but its picture quality is unfortunately only average.
The same as with the old model, its keyboard suffers a little from its short key travel and there are better input options on offer from the competition, such as the HP Envy x360. Its large clickpad now features improved palm rejection, although we had no problems with this on the old model either.

Sustainability
Samsung hasn't provided any information on the laptop's CO2 footprint during production or the use of recycled materials. Its packaging is largely made of cardboard and recyclable materials. A repair guide is available on the manufacturer's support page.
Display - AMOLED at 120 Hz
The newest Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 is fitted with the exact same AMOLED panel as its predecessor (ATNA60CL09-0), which is why recommend reading our review of the Galaxy Book4 Pro 360 for more detailed information. Subjectively, its AMOLED touchscreen features excellent picture quality with rich colors and an extremely high contrast ratio. Its response times are super fast and movements look very fluid thanks to its 120-Hz refresh rate. However, 240-Hz PWM is used across all brightness levels. Samsung provides various color profiles and there is also an sRGB mode (P3 & sRGB are fully covered).
Performance - Intel Lunar Lake and faster RAM
Testing conditions
The same as with its predecessor, Samsung offers various performance modes in the Settings app (High Performance, Optimized, Quiet, Silent), but these are now linked to the Windows settings. This wasn't the case before, but is now more convenient for the user. We used the Windows Best Performance profile for the following benchmarks and measurements, which now automatically selects the Samsung High Performance mode.
Processor
Samsung has gone for the new Intel Core Ultra 5 226V from the Lunar Lake generation, which is primarily designed for efficiency. It features four fast performance cores and four efficiency cores, whereby the chip can consume up to 37 watts in total. This puts it well below the old Meteor Lake CPUs such as the Core Ultra 5 125H from the predecessor model. In Performance mode, the processor initially consumed the full 37 watts and then leveled out at 30 watts (64/30 watts in the predecessor model), which is why its multi-core performance remained very stable overall. However, it must also be said that its multi-core performance came only just above the old Core Ultra 5 125H and couldn't keep up with the AMD processors. Overall, however, its performance is sufficient for the majority of everyday tasks. Its performance isn't reduced in battery mode. Further CPU benchmarks are available in our tech section.

Storage device
A 512-GB version of the Samsung PM9B1 is installed in our test device. The PCIe 4.0 SSD's transfer rates are decent and there shouldn't be any limitations during everyday use—plus, its performance remains constant even under prolonged load. After first starting up the device, users have 405 GB at their disposal. Further SSD benchmarks can be found here.

Graphics card
The Core Ultra 5 226V is equipped with the integrated Arc Graphics 130V with 7 Xe2 cores, which reach a maximum clock rate of 1,850 MHz. All-in-all, the 130V came just ahead of the old Arc Graphics of the Meteor Lake generation in the benchmarks. The iGPU is completely suitable for everyday multimedia applications, including playing back high-resolution videos—but it quickly reaches its limits when gaming. At least its performance remains stable both under prolonged load and in battery mode. Further GPU benchmarks are available here.

Emissions & power
Noise emissions
The device's cooling benefits from its lower short-term power limit. Although the maximum fan volume we noted under high load is comparable to the old model, the fans start up noticeably later during everyday use than was the case with the Galaxy Book4 Pro 360. With Quiet mode activated, you can significantly reduce the fan noise even under load (~26 dB(A)). We didn't hear any other electronic noises during the test period.

Temperature
The case doesn't heat up noticeably when idling and during everyday use, but we measured 45 °C on the bottom in the rear middle area under load. Nevertheless, you can still place the device on your thighs and the keyboard remains significantly cooler overall. During the stress test, the processor's consumption fluctuated between 25-30 watts and was therefore slightly higher overall than the old model (~24 watts).
(±) The maximum temperature on the upper side is 40.9 °C / 106 F, compared to the average of 35.4 °C / 96 F, ranging from 19.6 to 60 °C for the class Convertible.
(-) The bottom heats up to a maximum of 45.1 °C / 113 F, compared to the average of 36.8 °C / 98 F
(+) In idle usage, the average temperature for the upper side is 23.3 °C / 74 F, compared to the device average of 30.3 °C / 87 F.
(±) 3: The average temperature for the upper side is 34 °C / 93 F, compared to the average of 30.3 °C / 87 F for the class Convertible.
(+) The palmrests and touchpad are cooler than skin temperature with a maximum of 29.5 °C / 85.1 F and are therefore cool to the touch.
(±) The average temperature of the palmrest area of similar devices was 28 °C / 82.4 F (-1.5 °C / -2.7 F).

Runtimes
While its battery capacity is still 76 Wh, its runtimes have improved. The active signal mode remains at 120 Hz and cannot be changed. During the WLAN test at 150 cd/m² (corresponds to 67% of our test device's maximum SDR brightness), we now measured 10:46 hours, which is almost three hours more than the predecessor model. At full brightness, we noted just under 8 hours and in the video test, it even managed 19:41 hours and thus 5 hours more than before.

Notebookcheck total rating
The Galaxy Book5 Pro 360 is still a super high-quality 16-inch convertible with an impressive AMOLED panel and good speakers, but this comes at a price. Its new Lunar Lake processor makes itself especially known during everyday use thanks to less fan activity and significantly better battery runtimes, but its overall performance level is relatively low.
