Garmin is rolling out another update for multiple high-end smartwatches. While the company cites over half a dozen changes in its changelog, Beta Program participants have noticed a crucial issue with Garmin's new beta software.

Garmin has returned with a new beta update for the Enduro 3, Fenix E, Fenix 8 and the Tactix 8 (curr. $1,399 on Amazon). As with last week's update, Beta Version 21.34 is unavailable for Pro-branded smartwatches like the Fenix 8 Pro. Not only that, but the changelog for this week's build has left Beta Program participants scratching their heads.

According to Garmin, Beta Version 21.34 ships with seven bug fixes and improved Course Planner performance. Citing Beta Versions 21.25 and 21.27, the full official changelog is as follows:

  • Fixed issue where gear could not be assigned to all sports within a multisport activity.
  • Fixed issue where only one goal alert was shown per day.
  • Fixed issue where strength activities would show a black data screen on solar devices.
  • Fixed issue where the sports scores glance is missing from Quatix 8 series.
  • Fixed issue where the user would be instructed to set up Assistance after already doing so.
  • Fixed issue where the weight tracking glance is missing from Tactix 8 Solar and Quatix 8 series.
  • Fixed possible crash when using the HIIT activity.
  • Improved Course Planner performance.

Eagle-eyed Beta Program participants have noticed that this changelog is identical to the one Garmin published for Beta Version 21.32. Typically, a repeated changelog would be accompanied by Garmin re-enabling ECG functionality. When that happens, Garmin tends to transition that beta update to stable status shortly afterwards.

On this occasion, none of that has happened. As a result, it is currently unclear what new changes Beta Version 21.34 brings to the table. Anecdotally, Beta Version 21.34 has resolved a crash that could occur when switching songs via Bluetooth. At this stage, it is unclear when Garmin will return v21.xx development to its stable software branch.
