Garmin improves battery life in new update for watch-style wearable

An update for the Garmin Descent G2 watch-style dive computer is currently rolling out to users. This wearable, launched in February 2025, was last updated with system software 23.49. This earlier release from late 2025 tackled issues linked to the InReach remote and InReach SOS pages, and ANT connection stability.
Now, Garmin Descent G2 users are getting more bug fixes in system software 25.14. According to the change log, the update resolves an issue which could cause the wearable’s battery to drain at a faster-than-expected rate. Unfortunately, the company does not quantify the battery life improvement as a result of this bug fix.
Garmin has also tackled a problem with the Descent G2’s Dive Readiness widget, where the recovery time could be inconsistent. There are fixes for issues linked to dives recorded in pool mode, increased the total dive count unexpectedly, and a dive computer error which occurred when the user switched to an oxygen diluent for a CCR dive.
According to a recent post in the Garmin forum, the Descent G2 system software 25.14 has been pushed to at least 20% of users. When it is available to you, it should be automatically downloaded and installed when the device is connected to the Garmin Dive app, the Garmin Connect app or the Garmin Express software. You can currently buy the Descent G2 at Amazon for $699.97.
