The Garmin Instinct 3 AMOLED, Instinct 3 Solar, and Instinct E smartwatches are receiving software version 8.09. These wearables launched in January and have already received stable update version 7.08, which added Garmin Messenger to the Solar model, increased file storage and brought various bug fixes.
The release notes for System Software 8.09 state that this latest live update brings the Area Calc app to the Instinct 3 and Instinct E wearables. Plus, all three models get fixes for bugs relating to inReach Messenger notifications and adding glance folders in Garmin Connect Manager for Android.
For the Instinct 3 AMOLED and the Instinct 3 Solar come a new Jump Rope activity and support for Golf Live Scoring. Added to the Instinct 3 Solar and Instinct E are the After Sunset gesture, History glance, and PulseOx in the Altitude Acclimation widget. On top of this, there is support for Daily Summary, which provides information about how your stress and activity have affected your Body Battery score. Plus, the Instinct 3 Solar now has enhanced interval training.
Garmin states that at least 30% of users of the Instinct 3, the Instinct 3 and the Instinct E should have received System Software 8.09 so far, with the phased rollout expected to continue over the coming days. The company notes that if you get an error when updating via Garmin Express, you should try updating through the Garmin Connect Mobile app instead. It is unclear when the Instinct 3 smartwatch (curr. from $399.99 at Amazon) could join the Garmin Beta program.
