Back in January, it was announced that a new smartwatch based on the original Pebble Watch was in development. The watch is being developed by Eric Migicovsky, the founder of Pebble, following Google's decision to make PebbleOS open source. Nearly two months later, it seems the new smartwatch is on the horizon.
The RePebble website created by Migicovsky now has a timer counting down to what is presumed to be the announcement of the new PebbleOS-powered smartwatch. Based on the timer, the announcement or reveal will happen tomorrow at 4 PM CET/ 3 PM GMT/10 AM PT.
Eric Migicovsky already revealed that the new smartwatch will have the same specs and features as the original Pebble but with new additions too. It also won't have support for touch input but will rely on physical buttons to operate it. The upcoming watch will be compatible with existing Pebble apps and watchfaces, support Android and iOS, and have a battery life of up to a week. It will also be available to buy in black or white.
There's no info on how much it will cost but considering the smartwatch space has become highly competitive since the last Pebble watch was released, it should have a price tag that justifies its features. The original Pebble watch cost $99 when it launched in 2013. That is about $135 today when adjusted for inflation. With smartwatches like the Amazfit Active 2 (available on Amazon for $99.99), the new PebbleOS watch will be facing stiff competition when it launches.
