Back in mid-March, Pebble’s original founder, Eric Migicovsky, announced plans to revive the Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 as the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2. In the video below, he provided a first look at the box contents of the Core 2 Duo, expected to start shipping in July 2025. Priced at $149, the device will compete directly with budget-oriented smartwatches, such as the Huawei Watch Fit 3 (approx. $140 on Amazon).
Included with the smartwatch is an adapter that enables charging via a conventional USB-C cable. This clever design allows original fans to continue using their old Pebble charging cable, whilst ensuring new customers can rely on the same cable they already use for most smartphones. The adapter is also small enough to fit on a key ring. Since the Core 2 Duo promises a significantly improved battery life of 30 days, up from the 7 days of the original Pebble 2, users would likely only need to charge the device 12 times a year.
The first-look video doesn’t show the sports band, which will be included with the final product. By today’s standards, the Core 2 Duo is a remarkably simple smartwatch, featuring a 1.28-inch black-and-white display, a waterproof plastic case, sleep tracking functionality, and a pedometer. Heart rate monitoring is exclusive to the higher-priced Core Time 2. Both models come with a microphone and speaker, and are compatible with Apple iPhones and Android devices. Notably, PebbleOS is open source, granting users access to more than 10,000 third-party apps and watch faces.
