The Huawei Watch GT 5 Pro is receiving another global update, version 5.0.0.130 (SP3C00M02). This is the second reported update this month for the wearable, following a smaller release with stability improvements.
The change log for firmware version 5.0.0.130, a 52MB file, states that there are new training features for the Watch GT 5 Pro. There are new fitness classes located in the Workout app, and a shortcut to a chosen training mode using the smartwatch’s lower button. Plus, training modes in the Training app are now prioritized based on your usage to make your favourites easier to find.
Huawei indicates that it has optimized text input on the watch by adding the voice input feature to the keyboard. There is support for Chinese voice input in the following regions: Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe. Offline maps have also been improved, with the navigation arrow moving to show the direction in real-time and the ability to tap the map screen to toggle between north-facing and forward-facing views.
On top of this, rumors suggest that NFC payments could arrive in a firmware update in late February or early March. The first signs of this feature are visible after the latest update. It has been reported that users can now link a Mastercard to the watch via Quicko, found in the Huawei Health app under GT 5 Pro > Wallet. However, these cards remain unusable for the time being. Huawei has yet to officially confirm the launch date of the NFC contactless payments feature, which was announced last year.
