Huawei Watch 5 surfaces with eSIM support in early leak

It looks as though Huawei will soon be returning to its Watch smartwatch series after an extended absence. To recap, the company introduced the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Pro in June 2023 with Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chipsets. Since then, it has focused on other smartwatch series, such as the Watch GT series with last year's Watch GT 5 and Watch GT 5 Pro (curr. $372.97 on Amazon).

Now, the likes of Huawei Central have discovered an early reference to the Watch 5. Specifically, the smartwatch has been approved by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) database, the UAE's federal telecommunications regulatory agency. The listing should mean that the Huawei Watch 5 will receive a global release at some stage. However, it remains to be seen when at this stage.

The design of the Huawei Watch 5 remains unknown for the time being too. With that being said, the TDRA implies that the Watch 5 supports eSIM functionality. Arguably, this should come as little surprise though, given that the Watch 4 and Watch 4 Pro also offer cellular connectivity via this SIM type. More details about the Huawei Watch 5 will likely appear online in the next few weeks, with a Chinese launch likely following before the smartwatch reaches global audiences.
