An update is rolling out to the Amazfit Active 2 smartwatch. This wearable launched earlier this year, a new model with an AMOLED display, advanced health tracking, GPS navigation and support for offline maps. However, there have been some stock issues across Europe.
Now, the Amazfit Active 2 is receiving software version 6.0.8.4. The official change log states that this release brings bug fixes to the wearable, though it does not detail these. Plus, the update is said to make animations smoother; again, no further information is provided. However, Gadgets & Wearables has reported that there is another unofficial benefit with this update: local music storage.
After installing this latest update, users are able to load music onto the smartwatch via Bluetooth. The feature is accessed via the Zepp app by going to Profile > Amazfit Active 2 > Music and selecting MP3 files from your connected smartphone. This means that users can leave their phones at home when they go for a walk or run. The arrival of this feature is not wholly surprising, given that the Active 2 has had the ability to store maps since launch, and other Amazfit watches like the T-Rex 3 offer local music storage.
In the release notes, Amazfit informs users that this 128.85MB update “may take a little longer”, with reports suggesting this is around 15 minutes. It is unclear whether this is a phased rollout or if software version 6.0.8.4 is already available for all Active 2 smartwatches (curr. $99.99 at Amazon). You will be able to download the update through the Zepp app by going to Profile > My Devices > Amazfit Active 2 > System Update.
