Garmin releases new Forerunner smartwatch update fixing workout-related issues

Garmin is rolling out a new stable update for the Forerunner 165, Forerunner 255, Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 smartwatches. Version 22.24 is the second live release from the 22.xx cycle, following version 22.22, which added features like passcode security, Body Battery TrueUp and strength workouts for Garmin Run Coach and Cycling Coach training plans.

The change log for software version 22.24 is very similar to that of the beta version 22.24 update, which arrived earlier this month. Garmin notes that it has fixed an issue where scheduled workouts appear one day out for users in some time zones. It has also tackled problems with Daily Suggested Workouts showing as blank upon completion and a bug with the last activity tap-in. 

For the non-music versions of the Forerunner 165 (curr. $225.99 at Amazon) and Forerunner 255 smartwatches, the option to control the smart notification tone is back. Plus, an issue which caused some Connect IQ apps to crash on the Forerunner 165 has been resolved. However, the release notes for software version 22.24 do not mention fixes for problems relating to virtual partner pace and the smart notification replies during an activity, as seen in the beta version of this update. It is unclear why these are not included here.

In a recent post on the Garmin forum, the company states that update version 22.24 has rolled out to 20% of users. Unfortunately, it has not provided an estimated end date for this phased release. You can manually download the update by going to the Main Menu > System > Software Update > Check For Update.
