The Xiaomi Walkie Talkie 3 Chat Edition has been unveiled in China. This is a cheaper, entry-level model which lacks a display. The amateur radio supports frequencies between 430.0000 to 440.0000 MHz, with a range of 1-5 km (~0.6 to 3.1 miles). As such, the device could be used to talk to friends, family or colleagues in a warehouse or a shopping mall.
Xiaomi claims that it is quick to set the frequency of the Walkie Talkie 3 Chat Edition, with controls available via the Xiaomi Intercom App or Mijia App. This also makes it easy to synchronize up to 16 channels for multiple users simultaneously. Plus, you can use the app to adjust sound settings and enable or disable various features like push-to-talk; the latter allows for hands-free calling. This model has a maximum transmission power of 3W and is equipped with a 2,000mAh (7.2 Wh) battery. The company indicates that this allows for 120 hours of standby time, or 10 hours of continuous use, recharging via USB-C.
The Walkie Talkie 3 Chat Edition is relatively compact, according to Xiaomi, measuring 165 x 55 x 32 mm (~6.5 x 2.2 x 1.3 inches) and weighing 137 g (~4.8 oz). It can operate in temperatures ranging from -10 to 50°C (~14 to 122°F) and comes with a slot for a lanyard and a detachable clip at the rear. Xiaomi is currently selling the Walkie Talkie 3 Chat Edition in China for CNY 129 (~$18). It is unclear whether or when this gadget could launch in other markets like Europe.
