Mobvoi outlines new Wear OS 3 release schedule for just TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra smartwatches
The farce of Mobvoi upgrading its existing smartwatches to Wear OS 3 continues. To recap, Google announced in July 2021 that it expected its partners to start upgrading their smartwatches to Wear OS 3 'in mid to second half of 2022'. The Fossil Group somewhat achieved this by rolling out Wear OS 3 to Gen 6 smartwatches in October 2022, which is still later than planned. However, the same cannot be said for Mobvoi.
As Gadgets & Wearables reports, Mobvoi has started informing some TicWatch owners that Wear OS 3 will not be ready until the summer at the earliest. Worse still, the OS update is only headed to the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra. Reputedly, a Czech Republic-based customer received the following response from Mobvoi:
According to information that our product specialist received directly from the manufacturer Mobvoi, the manufacturer decided to assign priority to other projects. The current information is that the update is planned for the third quarter of this year.
The update will only be available for the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra and TicWatch E3 models.
Thus, it could take until September before Mobvoi updates these two smartwatches. Inexplicably, this would leave the original TicWatch Pro 3 on Wear OS 2, despite utilising the same chipset as the TicWatch E3 and TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra. Evidently, Mobvoi is focusing on finalising the TicWatch Pro 5, more details of which leaked in February.
