Garmin Instinct 2X Solar: Press images leak for new rugged smartwatch with built-in flashlight
WinFuture has obtained press images of the Instinct 2X Solar, a future Garmin smartwatch and likely one of several Instinct 2X members. According to the website, the unreleased smartwatch will have a 57 mm case size, which would be significantly larger than the existing Instinct 2. Based on the images that have leaked so far, a few design differences exist between the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2X series too.
Specifically, the Instinct 2X has a thicker bezel than the Instinct 2, evident by the inclusion of visible screws. However, the unreleased smartwatch has retained the five hardware buttons that Garmin included in the Instinct 2 series. Also, Instinct 2X smartwatches will come with MiP displays, with Garmin electing against upgrading the series to AMOLED panels like it did earlier this year with the Forerunner series.
As such, the Instinct 2X should retain the excellent battery life of its predecessors. Theoretically, the Instinct 2X Solar will offer practically infinite runtimes though, with a small solar element keeping the smartwatch topped up when being used outside for 3 hours or more. Moreover, the Instinct 2X series will be water resistant to 100 metres and will feature an integrated LED flashlight. Purportedly, the colour and brightness of the latter will be adjustable too. Unfortunately, pricing details and availability are unknown at this stage, though.
