Lenovo relaunches 16-inch laptop globally with newer processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 12GB
The ThinkBook 16p Gen 6 impressed us when we reviewed it in December 2025. Equipped with the Core Ultra 7 255HX, our review unit also extracted up to 115 W from its Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 laptop GPU. Despite launching over a year ago, Lenovo has decided to update the ThinkBook 16p Gen 6 with newer CPU and GPU options.
Specifically, Lenovo now lists its 16-inch ThinkBook with the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus processor. A 24-core processor, the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus typically underpins high-end gaming laptops, including the Razer Blade 18 2026, MSI Raider 16 Max HX and the Alienware 16X Aurora (curr. $3,459 on Amazon). According to our benchmarks, the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus should provide the ThinkBook 16p Gen 6 with significantly faster CPU performance than the Core Ultra 7 255HX and Core Ultra 9 275HX.
Additionally, the ThinkBook 16p Gen 6 has gained the weaker Core Ultra 7 251HX. One of the slowest processors in Intel's Arrow Lake HX family, the Core Ultra 7 251HX drops to 18 cores, which puts it between the existing Core Ultra 5 235HX and Core Ultra 7 255HX. For reference, the Core Ultra 7 251HX trails the Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus Plus by over 20% in multi-core workloads.
Moreover, Lenovo has added the GeForce RTX 5070 12GB to the ThinkBook 16p G6's configuration options. Capped at a 115 W total graphics power (TGP), the new GPU option brings 50% extra VRAM to the ThinkBook 16p G6, which should prove useful in some games and at some graphics settings. A 165 Hz IPS display with a 3.2K native resolution returns, as does an 85 Wh battery, dual M.2 2280 slots and support for up to 64 GB of RAM. Pricing and availability remain unknown for now, though.
