Lenovo releases new lightweight 14-inch laptop in the US with 120 Hz display and haptic touchpad
Lenovo has quietly brought one of its lightest 14-inch laptops to the US. Released simultaneously in Canada, the ThinkBook 14x starts at a mere 990 g with its default 54.7 Wh battery. In short, the ThinkBook 14x is around 30% lighter than the ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL we reviewed earlier this month (curr. $1,269 on Amazon).
Setting that aside, the ThinkBook 14x can currently be ordered in North America with the Core Ultra 5 226V from Intel's Lunar Lake family and 16 GB of on-package LPDDR5X RAM running at 8,533 MT/s. Based on recent releases, Lenovo may eventually offer the laptop with the more performant Core Ultra 7 256V or Core Ultra 7 266V, as well as dedicated 32 GB RAM options called the Core Ultra 7 258V and Core Ultra 7 268V.
Additionally, Lenovo populates the ThinkBook 14x's M.2 2242 slot with a 256 GB drive. However, one can also add more storage via a second SSD slot that supports M.2 2280 drives. Moreover, the ThinkBook 14x features a 1200p IPS display in the US with 400 nits peak brightness, 100% sRGB colour space coverage and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Unfortunately, the 2.8K OLED is missing in action, which is more colour accurate and brighter than the display offered here with a variable refresh rate too.
Still, the ThinkBook 14x ships with a haptic touchpad in North America within its 312 x 217 x 12.9~15.6 mm housing. The laptop lacks any Thunderbolt 4 ports to speak of, though. Instead, Lenovo includes 10 Gbps alternatives, which support DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB Power Delivery. Currently, pricing runs to CAD 1,529 and $1,104.
