Dynabook intros new premium laptop with up to 16-core Panther Lake CPU and Arc B390 graphics

Dynabook is a quite well-known Japanese PC hardware company that specializes in laptops intended for business and enterprise use. The company's latest offering is dubbed the Portege Z40L-P, and is powered by Intel's latest-gen Core Ultra X7 and X9 chips with powerful integrated graphics.

However, Dynabook has not specifically mentioned which exact variant of Intel's Panther Lake family will be found inside its latest laptop. Regardless, we do know that all four of the Core Ultra X7 and Core Ultra X9 SKUs support the same 16-core setup consisting of four high-performance cores, eight efficiency cores, and four low-power cores. 

All four of the chips are also paired with the extremely powerful Intel Arc B390 iGPU with 12 Xe3 cores. In raw benchmarks, the Arc B390 can easily keep up with older-generation discrete GPUs, such as the RTX 2060 Mobile. Clearly, lightweight gaming, as well as some content creation and other moderately intensive tasks, should be easily doable on the system.

For customers who do not require great amounts of compute horsepower, the Portege Z40L-P laptop will also be available with lower-end members of the Intel Panther Lake family. 

At the front, a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) display with a productivity-friendly aspect ratio of 16:10 will be present. It is not clear whether high refresh rate will be on offer, which is unlikely given the target audience for the Portege laptop. The underlying panel technology is also yet to be revealed. It's worth noting that its predecessor, which we reviewed positively, was equipped with a 60 Hz IPS panel.

User-swappable battery, physical privacy shutter, and more

The laptop will be available with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X memory, while storage requirements will be taken care of by up to a 2 TB NVMe SSD. The I/O on offer is as follows:

Other notable features of the laptop include an IR camera with a physical privacy shutter, MIL-STD-810H certification, a 56 Wh Li-Po battery which is user-accessible and swappable, dTPM 2.0, biometric authentication (fingerprint, face), stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos certification, and a dual microphone setup.

Dynabook has already revealed that the entry-level variant will be priced at a cool $2,170. The exact specs for the price are not clear as of this writing, but it is clear that the Portege Z40L-P is going to be quite a pricey product.
