There is no denying that ARM-powered laptops are not for everyone. However, for those who do not absolutely require native x86 compatibility, Snapdragon-powered laptops can offer a relatively good experience and impressive battery life. 

For instance, the recently launched Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is powered by the very potent Snapdragon X2 Elite processor, paired with a beautiful 14-inch OLED display. Courtesy of an online sale over at Lenovo's official store, this capable machine can now be purchased with a whopping 40% discount, bringing its price to just over $1,250. 

The Yoga Slim 7x sports a 12-core SoC and 32 GB RAM

This specific variant is equipped with:

• 1 TB of solid-state storage (PCIe Gen4)
• A 14-inch OLED display with a refresh rate of 60 Hz
• The aforementioned Snapdragon X2 Elite APU paired with 32 GB of RAM

The Yoga Slim 7x features several display options, and this specific unit boasts a 14-inch OLED panel with a refresh rate of 60Hz and a resolution of 1920 x 1200. Lenovo also claims 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, which we found to be true in our detailed review of the laptop. Our review also indicated a maximum brightness of around 367 nits, which might not be enough for outdoor usage. Touch support is also on offer.

The Snapdragon X2 Elite X2E-80-100 SoC packs a 12-core setup based on the Oryon V3 architecture. In synthetic benchmarks such as Cinebench 2026, this capable APU is just a smidge slower than the Core Ultra 9 386H chip and is around 12% faster than the Core Ultra X7 358H chip. Our test unit was equipped with a more powerful variant of the X2 Elite SoC, and we found that performance decreases by as much as 20% over 30 or so Cinebench loops.

Yoga Slim 7x can handle AAA titles, but only at low settings

Rather unsurprisingly, there is no discrete graphics. However, the Adreno X2-85 iGPU is no slouch, and can keep up with the 8-core Apple M4 iGPU in synthetic benchmarks such as 3D Mark. Modern AAA titles at low settings are definitely playable. For instance, Cyberpunk 2077 at low 1080p managed to run at around 40 FPS according to our tests - not bad for a mid-range iGPU. 

Overall, system efficiency is excellent, with the laptop remaining silent during lightweight tasks, and the fans ramping up only when stressed. We did not have any major issues with any other aspect of the laptop. However, the lack of a 3.5 mm audio jack is definitely quite surprising and disappointing. Battery life is simply excellent - the Yoga Slim 7x clocked well over 18 hours in our WiFi web browsing test. For comparison, the Dell XPS 14 with a Core Ultra 7 chip barely managed around 15 hours in the same test.

Folks who are willing to look past the laptop's ARM-based restrictions and the lack of upgradable memory, will likely be served quite well by the Yoga Slim 7x, especially at its current discounted price.
