Dynabook reveals updated ultra-light Portege laptop with Intel's Panther Lake CPUs

Alongside the Portege Z40L-P, Japanese brand Dynabook has also updated its ultralight offering, the X30L laptop, with Intel's latest-gen Panther Lake CPUs. Weighing in at just around 910 g or 2 lbs, the X30L-P continues offering a healthy amount of performance in an ultra-light design.

Unlike the Z40L, however, it appears that the X30L will not be available with the highest-end Core Ultra X7 and X9 chips with powerful Arc B390 iGPUs. The exact CPU options are yet to be revealed. Considering that Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 "Panther Lake" family sports anywhere between 6 to 16 core setups, predicting the laptop's performance without knowing the exact SKU is not possible.

That said, its predecessor did boast high-end 16-core H-class processors. Unless Dynabook has had a change of heart, it is possible that this newer variant will also support the high-end 16-core Core Ultra 7 366H chip, which should be roughly 33% faster than the Core Ultra 7 165H found in its predecessor.

Dynabook has also stated that the laptop will be equipped with up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X memory and 2 TB of solid-state storage. A 13.3-inch WUXGA display with a productivity-friendly aspect ratio of 16:10 has also been confirmed. It is unclear whether OLED options will be available, but it is worth noting that its predecessor was only available with either a 300 or a 400-nit IPS display.

Other notable details of the Portege X30L-P laptop include 

• Dynabook's proprietary BIOS for enhanced security
• Facial and fingerprint-based biometric authentication
• MIL-STD-810H durability certification
• Dark blue magnesium alloy chassis similar to its predecessor

Although exact availability details are yet to be revealed, Dynabook has stated that the X30L-P laptop will boast a starting price of $1,650.
