Leaker reveals further details about Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Ultra flagships
Digital Chat Station has provided new information about the Xiaomi 15 series, which is still likely at least six months away from being released. Nonetheless, the same leaker suggested last month that there was a 'high probability' that the Xiaomi 15, Xiaomi 15 Pro and Xiaomi 15 Ultra would cost more than the Xiaomi 14, Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra. For context, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is the most expensive of the three globally at €1,499.90.
Now, Digital Chat Station asserts that forthcoming smartphones will begin the next phase of internal testing later this month, albeit without mentioning model names, codenames or mobile numbers. At any rate, the leaker reports that this testing phase is to determine whether Xiaomi will go ahead with bringing ultrasonic fingerprint sensors to the Xiaomi 15 series, as well as new periscope cameras. Allegedly, Xiaomi plans to utilise the Omnivision OV64B in the Xiaomi 15 Pro, a 64 MP sensor across various POCO, Redmi and Xiaomi smartphones, including the POCO X6 Pro (curr. $328 on Amazon).
However, while the POCO X6 Pro uses the Omnivision OV64B as its primary camera, the Xiaomi 15 Pro is said to be leveraging the same sensor for periscope telephoto optics instead. Conversely, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is rumoured to gain a 200 MP periscope camera with a 3x~5x variable zoom length. Furthermore, all devices are claimed to benefit from a new high-density silicone battery technology; battery capacities remain unknown for now, though. With that being said, 50 MP primary cameras and existing display resolutions are expected to remain, aided by the various improvements that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will bring over the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Currently, Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro mass production is anticipated to begin in September 2024.
