Polestar Phone: Tesla competitor reveals details and launch date for almost borderless 21:9 flagship
The Polestar Phone was originally announced last November, and was quite clearly a customized variant of the Meizu 20 Pro, albeit with a brand new Android skin that was primarily intended to enable deep integration with Polestar's electric cars. Now, the manufacturer has officially confirmed on Chinese social network Weibo that the Polestar Phone will be fully unveiled on Tuesday, April 23.
In line with this announcement, the manufacturer has published a series of new images showing the design of the smartphone in detail. As expected, the Polestar Phone features a flat display with a particularly narrow bezel in 21:9 format - unusually narrow for a modern smartphone. This screen format can also be found on the Sony Xperia 1 V, for example.
The screen edges measure 2.2 mm on all four sides, which is good, but not market-leading. Polestar speaks of a screen-to-body ratio of 91.5%. The flat glass back is etched on all four sides, providing gentle curvature. The frame is made of aluminum and is said to be able to withstand drops particularly well. The LED flash has a "Swedish gold" frame and the tool for removing the SIM card is also gold-plated.
As shown in one of the images, the Polestar Phone has a 70 mm f/2.08 telephoto camera, a 23 mm f/1.9 main camera and a 15 mm f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle camera. The user interface appears to use simple, typographic elements and simple icons, as we have come to expect from Polestar. According to rumors, the Polestar Phone will offer similar features to the Meizu 20 Infinity.
