Google's next flagship smartphone releases are not expected to land until the autumn. Nonetheless, someone has already got their hands on the Pixel 9 Pro, which Google has equipped with 16 GB of RAM and triple cameras to take on Apple's iPhone 16 Pro.

Google is under a month away from hosting its next I/O conference, which is scheduled for May 14 this year. Currently, the company is only thought to be introducing the Pixel 8a, which has now been pictured in four colours, including an eye-catching light green option. There have been plenty of Pixel 9-related leaks of late though, such as a recent suggestion that Google will roll a Pixel Fold successor into the Pixel 9 series as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Now, Rozetked has leaked what it states are images of a Pixel 9 Pro prototype. Currently, Google only affords triple camera set-ups to its larger smartphones like the Pixel 8 Pro (curr. $799.99 on Amazon). However, @OnLeaks reported last month that this would no longer apply for the Pixel 9 series, which is expected to arrive this autumn.

Instead, @OnLeaks asserted that Google has developed an alternative to Apple's smaller 'Pro' iPhone that would launch as the Pixel 9 Pro. The photos supplied by Rozetked support this, which we have embedded above and below. As far as we can tell, the website has shot the Pixel 9 Pro next to an iPhone 14 Pro Max to highlight the former's more compact dimensions, which are claimed to be 152.8 x 71.9 x 8.5 mm.

In short, the Pixel 9 Pro matches @OnLeaks' earlier renders with an updated camera housing, three rear-facing cameras and flatter edges than recent Pixel smartphone releases. Likewise, the leaked images show the Pixel 9 Pro having a flat display and a matte back panel but glossy side rails. On top of that, one shot shows the device's reputed codename 'caiman', as well as 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of Samsung-sourced UFS storage. Thus, while the Pixel 9 Pro may be launching later this year with 4 GB of RAM more than recent 'Pro' Pixel smartphones, Google will maintain 128 GB as its entry-level storage option.
