The IKEA Gömpyssling LED lighting with sensor is now available in several European countries. While this is not a smart home product, it can be used to automatically illuminate a space like a cupboard or a closet.
The Gömpyssling light has an integrated motion sensor, which is used to trigger the light when a door is opened or someone enters a space. The light will automatically switch off after ten seconds if no movement is detected. Plus, the downward angle of the 2,700 K warm white light, with 20 lumens brightness, should help it to softly illuminate the space from above.
IKEA’s Gömpyssling is an AA battery-powered device, expected to run for around 25,000 hours. It has a round, white casing, measuring 70 x 19 x 19 mm (~2.76 x 0.75 x 0.75 inches), and it can be easily mounted to furniture with the accompanying gel pad.
You can now buy the IKEA Gömpyssling LED lighting with sensor in the UK for £3, and in EU countries like France and Germany for €4. This is the price for a two-pack, though IKEA notes that batteries are not included. Whether or when this gadget could reach more markets remains to be seen.
