Huawei announces HarmonyOS 4.2 smartwatch features with new Watch 4 series beta testing
Huawei has been recruiting Watch 4 series smartwatch users in China to beta test HarmonyOS 4.2. This will be a closed beta, with 6,000 users selected to participate, supposedly on a first-come, first-served basis.
Some features of the HarmonyOS 4.2 software have already been announced by Huawei. These include new watch faces and Health Glance version 2.0, an upgrade on the previous tool. Version 2.0 monitors thirteen rather than ten biometrics, bringing new arrhythmia analysis, sleep apnea detection, and hyperglycemia risk assessment tools. Plus, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro will get the Ultra Wide Band (UWB) car key, providing a new way for you to unlock your car with the wearable. These features are all seen in the Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Exploration smartwatch, which was recently launched in China.
After this beta testing is completed, Huawei is expected to launch a public round of testing, allowing a larger number of users to trial the software. When Huawei will publicly roll out HarmonyOS 4.2 to all Watch 4 series smartwatch users remains to be seen. In other news, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro was updated a couple of weeks ago to version 4.0.0.230, bringing the March 2024 security patch to the watch.
