Huawei is rolling out HarmonyOS 4.2 to the Watch Ultimate. The move follows the announcement of a beta testing program for the software for the Watch 4 series smartwatches in China. Users across the world have reported the update, with version number 4.2.0.103(SP1C00M01). However, some users have been left feeling disappointed.
The change log for update 4.2.0.103 indicates that new watch faces have been added. These include TriRings designs, which show your step count, higher intensity acitivity and active hours. Huawei notes that you can download the latest watch faces from the Watch Face Store. The software is also said to include an enhanced user experience during the smartwatch update process. However, exactly what has been improved remains unclear.
This is the first HarmonyOS 4.2 update to arrive outside of China, but it is missing many of the features which users might have been expecting. For example, the Huawei Watch 4 Pro Space Exploration edition, running on the latest version of HarmonyOS, offers Health Glance 2.0 with additional biometric tracking, and the ability to display maps on the smartwatch. Whether or when Huawei intends to bring these tools to the Huawei Watch Ultimate is currently unknown.
