Amazfit releases new affordable smartwatch with 11 days of battery life and Amazon Alexa integration
Amazfit has expanded its smartwatch portfolio, shortly after announcing a new update for existing models. Incidentally, the company has only just confirmed a US release date for its first-generation smart ring too, details of which we have covered separately. This time, it has presented the Bip 5 Unity, a cheaper alternative to the Bip 5 that it already sells globally (curr. $79.99 on Amazon).
Somewhat surprisingly, the Bip 5 Unity features IP68 certification against dust and water ingress like the Bip 5. Not only that, but the Bip 5 Unity has a stainless steel frame rather than plastic like the Bip 5. Additionally, Amazfit equips the former with a 1.91-inch LCD display that outputs at 320 x 280 pixels. Please note that while many of Amazfit's marketing images suggest that the Bip 5 Unity has slim bezels, the smartwatch actually has a much thicker chin than its side or top bezels.
Separately, the Bip 5 Unity contains a 300 mAh battery that Amazfit rates for up to 5 days of heavy usage, 11 days of typical usage or 26 days with battery saver mode activated. As usual, the company includes its BioTracker PPG biometric sensor, which can measure blood oxygen (SpO2) and heart rate levels, among other health metrics. Moreover, the sensor allows the Bip 5 Unity to warn wearers of an abnormally low heart rate, as well as high stress levels or low blood oxygen saturation.
On top of that, Amazfit pre-installs 120 sports modes, over 100 watch faces and Amazon Alexa as a dedicated voice assistant. Furthermore, roughly 70 apps can be installed through the smartwatch's associated smartphone app. Currently, the Bip 5 Unity is available in the UK and the US, where it sells for $59.99 and £69.99, respectively. While Amazfit has not confirmed pricing elsewhere yet, it tends to release its wearables globally, including in Europe and India.
