Garmin’s new update for smartwatches marks return to 10.xx beta cycle
The Garmin Venu 3 and Venu 3s smartwatches are receiving a new beta update, version 10.12. The firmware follows a recent stable update, version 9.27, which rolled out to the wearables earlier in April.
The latest beta software adds support for the Garmin Messenger app to the Venu 3 series watches. This brings with it both a dedicated app and a glance for the wearable. The change log also notes two other features: a tool to search for a lost phone using GPS and the dynamic heart rate data source for a more accurate measurement. The changes were first seen for the smartwatch in Beta update 10.08, which landed in March. However, this was followed by Beta update 9.27, which appeared to temporarily remove these features, instead providing bug fixes relating to Connect IQ.
As with other Beta software for the Garmin Venu 3 series smartwatches, the company notes that the ECG feature is disabled. You can download version 10.12 from the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update. Customers who want to join the Beta Program can do so via Garmin Connect. In other news, Garmin has recently begun to roll out a refreshed home screen for the Garmin Connect smartphone app.
