The Heybike Horizon foldable e-bike has been launched in the US. The company claims it is the first electric bicycle with a step-thru frame, hydraulic disc brakes and Horst-Link suspension at the rear. The model also has a front spring fork with 80 mm travel, preload adjustment and lock-out.
The Horizon is powered by a 1,200W peak power rear hub motor, delivering 80Nm torque and a top speed of 28 mph (~45 kph). A 692Wh battery allows you to ride the e-bike for up to 55 miles (~89 km) on a single charge; the power pack fully recharges in three hours and is expected to retain 80% capacity after 600 cycles. An LCD shows your speed and remaining battery, amongst other details, with further statistics in the accompanying Heybike app. Other features of the 7-speed bike include new 24 x 4.0-in fat tires, a headlight, tailight and brake lights. Plus, a rear rack helps you transport luggage, with a total weight limit of 120 lbs (~54 kg).
The one-size e-bike comes in a limited edition sunset color, weighs 79 lbs (~36 kg) and folds to make it easier to transport. When folded, the bicycle measures 49.2 x 23.6 x 31.5-in (~1.25 x 0.6 x 0.8 m). You can now buy the Heybike Horizon for the discounted price of US$1,699; the e-bike will eventually retail for US$1,999. According to the website, orders will ship from December 3. Whether or when the model could launch in other markets, such as Canada, the UK, or the EU, remains to be seen.
