The Decathlon Riverside 520 E electric mountain bike with a low frame is now available in the EU. The new step-through model is otherwise identical to the step-over model launched earlier this year. The 520E is powered by a 250W rear wheel motor, with up to 42Nm torque and a top assistance speed of 25 kph (~16 mph).
You can choose from four assistance modes on the 520E, with the 500Wh lithium-ion battery allowing you to ride with assistance for up to 100 km (~62 miles) on a single charge. A backlit LCD shows information including your speed, distance travelled, and remaining battery life, plus an integrated USB port allows you to charge your phone as you ride. Other features of the 8-speed bike include an SR Suntour Nex SF19 suspension fork with 63 mm travel and lockable spring, hydraulic disc brakes and all-road tires.
The step-over 520E was offered in four sizes from S to XL, suiting riders from 1.50 to 2.01 m (~4 ft 11-in to 6 ft 7-in) tall. By comparison, the new step-over model is only available in three sizes, S to L, with the maximum suggested rider height capped at 1.89 m (~6 ft 2-in). Decathlon indicates that the lower geometry makes it easier to mount the bike. You can now buy the Decathlon Riverside 520 E low-frame electric mountain bike in the EU for €1,399. It is unclear whether or when the model could reach other markets, such as the UK.
