Garmin releases Beta update v19.17 for Edge 540, 840 and 1040 bike computers

The Garmin Public Beta update version 19.17 is now available for the Edge 540, Edge 840, and Edge 1040 GPS bike computers. The new software fixes two bugs in the devices: issues with the backlight and Functional Threshold Power (FTP). Garmin notes that the update should be delivered to eligible devices automatically.

Garmin has released Public Beta version 19.17 for the Garmin Edge 540, Edge 840 and Edge 1040 Series bike computers. This is another relatively minor update, following 19.15, which arrived several days ago, bringing a prompt to make it harder to mistakenly discard a ride and a fix for a problem with smart notifications.

Public Beta Version 19.17 is identical for the Edge 540, Edge 840 and Edge 1040 devices;  the change log lists two bug fixes. First, an issue with adjusting the backlight in some Connect IQ apps has been resolved. Second, a problem that occurred when Functional Threshold Power (FTP) was automatically detected and accepted has been fixed.

Garmin notes that the new beta software will be automatically installed on eligible Edge bike computers after they have been synced with Garmin Connect Mobile or via Garmin Express. If you find any bugs after downloading the update, the company asks that you log them in the Bugs Reports section of the forum. So far, customers have reported issues relating to incorrect data displayed on the VO2Max graph and the IQ error icon displaying in some data fields. It is unclear how many gadgets have been affected by these issues. You can sign up for the Beta Program via Garmin Connect.
