With the HP Victus, HP has just introduced a new budget gaming laptop. This begs the question: Is the Omen series' small price premium justified? This is what we will try to determine in the following review, particularly since the new Omen 16 comes in the now very popular 16-inch form factor, while being the successor to the Omen 15.

The HP Omen 16 is a capable and affordable machine for mainstream gaming and work, thanks to its solid all-AMD internals and great screen. However, its GPU is outpaced by Nvidia’s offerings and other machines offer better build quality and ergonomics. As such, the Omen 16 is only worth considering if the high-resolution screen is a priority. The HP’s high-resolution screen delivers fantastic quality, and elsewhere this machine has a brilliant processor, a solid graphics core, plenty of connectivity and a slim design. If those are priorities, consider this portable. But if you want more gaming power, Nvidia’s chips are quicker, and other laptops deliver better build quality and ergonomics.

HP has a good thing going with the Omen 16 laptops. The functional and elegant design and build of the laptop is outstanding, while its performance is stunning at all levels. The display is dynamic and smooth. At its starting price of Rs 1,09,999, it is hard not to recommend the Omen 16 AMD edition as a great option for those looking for a capable gaming laptop. There are a few issues but I don't consider them deal-breaking. Overall, my impression of the Omen 16 is extremely positive. It should be on your radar if you are looking to buy a gaming laptop around Rs 1 lakh.

With its AMD guts, the HP Omen 16 AMD edition is a great choice if you can spend north of Rs. 1 lakh on a midrange gaming laptop. The combination of the Ryzen 9 5900H processor and the Radeon RX 6600M make this a solid choice for those looking for a reliable gaming machine in the midrange segment. The presence of a 1440p 165Hz colour accurate display is a boon but not all games can take advantage of this higher resolution. The general build quality is good and even if you want to use it as a regular work PC, it can serve you well. On the whole, if you have less than Rs. 1.5 lakhs to spend on a gaming laptop, the HP Omen 16 AMD edition is a laptop you should definitely check out.

The HP Omen 16 is a versatile gaming laptop. It has a pleasantly low-key design, but the 4-zone RGB keyboard backlight can supply a little colour when you want it. The aluminium keyboard plate gives it some of the flavour of a slim and light style laptop too, even if the Omen is not notably slim or light. Its keyboard is solid, the touchpad respectable, albeit made of plastic. The performance is a good fit for 1080p gaming, while AMD's upscaling tech lets you upscale that to 1440p in titles that support it. We think the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro series has a slight edge over the HP Omen 16, but not a huge one. As ever when shopping for a gaming laptop, your choice should be guided by the deals available when you come to buy.

The HP Omen 16, without a doubt, performs well on the gaming front thanks to the AMD Octa-core Ryzen 7 5800H Processor, AMD Radeon RX 6600M (8GB) GPU, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD storage. And even though these components can strain the thermal department, the laptop does surprisingly well to manage the temperatures. Occasionally, the keyboard does feel a bit warm, but the Omen 16 never feels too hot to be considered a major problem. Like every other gaming laptop, the HP Omen 16 is quite underwhelming when it comes to audio quality as well. While it delivers some punch with its volume, the dual speaker setup by Bang & Olufsen lacks some oomph when it comes to producing high-quality sound. Overall, the HP Omen 16 checks most boxes when it comes to providing the ultimate gaming experience, packing all the necessary tools, with the display and inner hardware components for gamers to enjoy. A few grippes hold it from becoming the best gaming laptop at 1440p. It’s well-specced for 1080p, although you might want to consider the step-up Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with an Nvidia RTX 3070 graphics card.

Putting the AMD GPU to one side for a moment, the entry-level HP Omen 16 is a thoroughly recommendable machine. The 16.1in display is undoubtedly the star of the show but the sound system deserves a mention in dispatches, too. The Omen is also a well-made and stylish machine that’s easy to upgrade, and the price is most certainly right. The AMD graphics card will be a definite bonus if your favourite games support AMD’s FSR upscaling that will make the most of the 1440p display resolution, but having to play graphically demanding DLSS-only games at 1080p is hardly a sacrifice on a laptop costing this little.

HP's Omen 16 with AMD's Ryzen processor is sparing in its use of gaming components. Top performance thus cannot be expected, but this is not strictly necessary in the case of many popular gaming titles. Moreover, the fun does not stop upon seeing the price, even if a few weaknesses come to light in the test.

After years of 15- and 17-inch displays dominating the gaming scene, more and more 16-inch devices are entering the market. One of the best examples of this is the new version of the HP Omen 16 with an Alder Lake CPU and an Ampere GPU.

Last year was pivotal for the relationship between the manufacturers and the users. In the gaming industry, we saw a huge outburst of first-party software, which offers some sort of hardware customization – like preset performance profiles or even overclocking. Well, props to HP for going the extra mile, and providing you with arguably the most important “enthusiast” laptop feature – undervolting. We have not yet tested the limits of this feature, but we found out that the software is pretty lenient – of course, they would want to be sure you don’t cook up your brand new device. Nevertheless, we have to mention that the cooling is more than capable of running the 80W RTX 3050 Ti. It would be great if HP has put the facilities for a higher TGP so that they can increase it via a firmware update. At least for now, we have no information about any intentions from HP to do so. HP Omen 16 (16-b000)’s 16.1-inch IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, decent contrast ratio, and comfortable viewing angles. Furthermore, its backlight doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment, and it fully covers the sRGB color gamut.

Sticking with this sample configuration and looking at the broader market, the HP Omen 16 is currently not priced very well. Acer's Predator is $1,300 and the MSI Creator 15 comes with a 4K display and is $1,450. Even HP's own Omen 17 is also available for $1,450. The $1,650 asking price for the Omen 16 just isn't in the same ballpark. Bottom line, the Omen 16 is a great laptop with solid build quality and aesthetics, but it's not priced competitively, at least as of writing this review. I enjoyed reviewing it, and could see myself using it as my personal laptop. If HP can figure out the configuration and pricing model, I think they'd have a winner.

For the longest time, I have looked at gaming laptops as non-traditional notebooks aimed at a niche set of users. But during Covid-19, the gaming laptop market has emerged as a promising category with many brands launching gaming notebooks at different price points so as to appeal to a wider user base. HP’s latest Omen 16 falls in the same bracket and comes with a Ryzen 7 5800H processor, an Nvidia RTX 3050 Ti graphics chip, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage at a price tag of Rs 109,999. But does the AMD version of the Omen 16 impress with a set of specs under the hood? Here is my review of the HP Omen 16.

HP Omen 16 price starts at Rs 1,09,999 and this is not an easy price bracket, especially from a gaming laptop perspective. Every other brand has something in this price range and the competition is a little too fierce. HP Omen 16 isn’t shy of offering top-notch performance along with solid build quality and weirdly (in a good way) good keyboard which is both spacious and responsive. Apart from that it also has a good display. But, HP has cut some corners here with the trackpad, which is perhaps the only gripe we have about this laptop and can be easily fixed by some future driver update. So, whether you should go ahead and buy it or look for some alternatives? There’s no doubt this price range is full of alternatives. But if you are after something that offers good performance, battery life and solid build quality then HP Omen 16 should be in your top three list.

When it comes to performance and battery life, it is difficult to pinpoint a flaw in the device. The HP Omen 16 is a no-nonsense gaming unit and it does not pretend to be anything else. Yes, I did have a few minor issues with its design, the arrow key location, the little gap between the lid and deck in the middle and the lack of probably a higher quality display (2K would be really nice), but it is important to recognize that it is not a general purpose laptop but a gaming device. And HP has placed all the right components to make it a very efficient gaming machine. If you are someone who enjoys gaming but is not super competitive and is not bothered with the looks of the laptop, then this one will give you a lot to be happy about. The laptop does cost more than Rs. 1 lakh but that is because Intel machines are more expensive due to higher performance efficiency and superior driver support. So, if you can afford it and value performance, go for it. However, if you do value the appearance and flashiness of your device, you do have a few options.

The Omen 16 is one of the few 16-inch gaming laptops to offer all-AMD configurations including even the rarely benchmarked Radeon RX 6650M GPU. Overall performance is competitive against mainstream Nvidia options so long as you keep your expectations in check.
Source: PC Mag
The HP Omen 16 is a largely satisfactory package overall, delivering midrange 1080p gaming at a reasonable price. Its all-AMD components, while a decent value, don't quite match the performance of comparably priced Intel and Nvidia rigs, however. These systems generally provide either more CPU or GPU power and sometimes both, so we can't find a particular reason to recommend the Omen despite its lack of major flaws. If you particularly like this unit's style or AMD allegiance or find it on sale, it'll serve you well, but it won't get you many bragging rights.

Personally, I like the style of the HP OMEN 16. Performance is decent as well, and if you want even better performance, there are other processor and graphics card options available as well. Even though this configuration just missed the Highly Rated mark here at Techaeris, I’m positive with a few configuration tweaks, it easily would. If you’re in the market for a gaming laptop, you should at least consider one of the various HP OMEN 16 configurations, especially one of the ones with the QHD 165Hz display.

Which laptops are HP Omen 16 (16-k0000)’s main competitors? One of them undoubtedly is the Legion 5i Pro (16″, 2022). They share a similar price tag, screen size, and hardware options. As it turns out, we have tested both machines, and they have exactly the same CPU and GPU combo. Naturally, you can expect an in-depth comparison on the matter pretty soon.

The HP Omen 16 (n0003na) has a lot to commend it. The 16.1-inch display gives great screen real estate, has fantastic resolution, and boasts brilliant viewing angles. The laptop case is a modern and up-to-date gaming design with rugged edges. There are also a huge number of ports, with several located at the rear, which is pretty rare for laptops. In terms of performance, this laptop is firmly in the middle range, outperforming the Razer Blade 14 but falling short of the Acer Nitro 5. If price is a consideration and you're happy with mid-range performance, then the HP Omen 16 is a solid choice.

The HP Omen 16 strikes an interesting middle ground between high-end gaming and general-use laptop. Much like its smart and discreet design, this is a machine that has no problem being used as an everyday streaming and surfing device, work machine, or gaming master (when plugged in). However, it does get loud due to the fans and is quite warm for lap-based gaming sessions.

The Omen 16 is back this year with an improved cooling solution that's larger and more efficient than before. It also happens to have one of the lowest starting prices we've seen for a GeForce RTX 4060 laptop at US$1100.
Source: Laptop Mag
The HP Omen 16 is a good gaming laptop that represents a step up from budget gaming without traipsing into the $3,000+ for some of the best gaming laptops. Its Core i7 CPU and Nvidia 4080 GPU combo can easily handle your triple-A game titles. The only thing that sticks out for me is I found it too similar to the Victus 16, which could be a good thing if you’re moving up to a new level of gaming. However, I don't know if the performance boost is enough to warrant spending the extra money. The Omen’s display is an excellent selling point as it reproduces imagery beautifully, although according to our testing, it's not very bright, in real-world usage I found it sufficient, but be wary if you are often gaming in an overly bright environment. Overall, the HP Omen 16 is a fine premium gaming laptop to spend your weekend gaming on, but watch those add-ons if you are customizing as it can get expensive quickly.

HP has made some small compromises to keep the Omen 16 as affordable as possible - the screen could be brighter, and the limited battery life are disappointing, even when using integrated graphics. But the Omen delivers the goods for gaming, with a powerful processor and GPU that provide impressive gaming performance, while the high-refresh display provides smooth, detailed graphics that will help to give you a competitive edge.

With little to find fault about in its overall design, the refreshed HP Omen 16 is certainly a speedy gaming laptop. But considering our test unit's price, we can't help but be left wanting more. The build quality is decent, not amazing; the display is, well, average; and the battery life is unexceptional. Most crucially, while the HP delivers a steady high-end gaming experience, the comparably priced Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 handily outperforms it. When you spend more than $2,800 on a gaming rig, it should really blow the roof off, but the Omen lacks any real standout or marquee feature. A more affordable configuration much closer to the $1,149.99 base model might be a much better fit for you, but as is the Omen 16 falls short of Editors' Choice consideration.

Compared to last year’s configuration I reviewed with the AMD processor, the Intel HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop performed much better this year. The tweaks to the cooling system, latest components, and 16.1-inch 240Hz QHD display make for a solid gaming experience. While on the pricey side, you do definitely get what you pay for and the 2023 HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop should be a solid consideration if you’re in the market. As such, we’ve awarded it a Top Pick of 2023 Award here at Techaeris.

The HP OMEN 16 (16-xd0000) offers good enough gaming capabilities, with the Ryzen 7 7840HS and RTX 4060 reaching around 4.00 GHz and 2365 MHz, respectively, under maximum load. However, we’ve seen better-performing devices in terms of clocks with the same chips like the Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-41). The OMEN 16 fans are also noisy when the internals are pushed to their limits. On the bright side, both external and internal thermals are in check. The default PWM-free 144Hz 1080p display (CMN162E) offers wide viewing angles and a 1580:1 contrast ratio. On the other hand, the maximum brightness and the color coverage are low. The build quality is above the average. The matte finish on the chassis picks up fingerprints with ease.

If you have HP Omen 16-money burning a hole in your pocket, you can choose from a host of competing machines. Acer’s Nitro 5 is a stalwart of the sector and can be picked up with a 140W RTX 4060 for a little less, but the 144Hz display is rather low rent, and the battery life is poor. Lenovo’s LOQ 15i is another option which can be picked up with an RTX 4060 GPU for £1,250, though it’s often on sale for under £1,000 but again, the 144Hz display is drab and battery life poor. This brings us to the Omen 16’s main selling point: No part of it is actually bad. That may seem like faint praise, but in the lower-mid-price gaming laptop market, it’s really not. Yes, a 16:10 panel would be preferable, and a second SSD mount would be useful, but the display, sound system, battery life, performance, design and build quality are all among the very best you can get for the price. If you fancy something with different capabilities in any of these areas, we’ve got a bunch more options featured in our best gaming laptop guide.

The HP OMEN 16 AMD is packing top-tier specifications at a reasonable price. The AMD + NVIDIA combination also gives it a decent battery backup over other competitors. So if you consider the price, specifications, and the way it is put together, then you have a really good laptop at hand. The Intel model starts at Rs 1,00,699 and gives you 16GB RAM, RTX4050 graphics, and 512GB SSD storage. Now the AMD version starts at Rs 1,09,990 and is packing the same RAM and graphics, but with a 1TB SSD. So, for around Rs 10,000 more, you get twice the storage, which should help in the long run if you wish to store more content on the laptop. However, if you’re already using Thunderbolt peripherals or plan on using them, you may have to consider an Intel laptop. Intel models also perform slightly better at benchmarks, but you’re unlikely to feel a difference even during heavy gaming.

Shopping for laptops can be difficult. You have to ask yourself so many questions just so you have an idea of what you're looking for. Do you want the best laptop out there or do you want something more run-of-the-mill for work? Or maybe you prefer a gaming rig? If you find yourself agonizing over the right laptop, allow me to introduce the HP Omen 16. It's a slim, lightweight laptop able to fit snuggly in almost any bag. You can lug it around and hardly know it's there. I used it as my main computer for everyday work for a few weeks. Typing on the keyboard was quite pleasant since the keys have a nice, springy feel to them and the deep travel distance made it easy on my hands. The touchpad itself sports a smooth, responsive, enjoyably clicky feel. And its large size makes it great for productivity. My review unit had an AMD Ryzen 7-7840HS processor paired up with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card.

Not only does the HP Omen 16 improve upon its previous design flaws but it does so with a clear focus on maintaining the laptop’s famous cooling performance. The use of the AMD Ryzen 7840HS processor further expands the usability of HP Omen 16 in terms of efficiency. And on top of that HP’s engineering and design capabilities keep it competitive to other identically specced gaming laptops and even surpassing them in terms of thermal efficiency. The easy-to-use HP Omen firmware, a highly colour-accurate display, and a great keyboard trump the fact that its quad-speaker setup and trackpad are what my Gen Z neighbour would call “mid” by modern standards.

It is good to see HP back on track in the gaming laptop circuit with the Omen 16, especially after playing catch up in offering modern and up-to-date machines for the last few years. At RM8,999, though, it’s not the cheapest gaming laptop on the market but considering its competition and the prices they’re charging, and for an RTX 4070 no less, it’s far from unreasonable. At the end of the day, the Omen 16 is a serviceable laptop, sporting a decent and power-efficient Ryzen 7000 Series CPU, a moderately powerful NVIDIA GPU, a better-than-average QHD+ display with equally impressive refresh rate, and a large battery that contributes to its endurance. On top of that, it’s got a clean, no-nonsense chassis that still manages to look slick.

It’s hard to recommend the Omen 16, not because it’s bad, but just because it’s not particularly good. At its new premium price, the laptop is competing with machines from Alienware, Asus, Lenovo, and Razer, all without ditching some of the budget-focused ideas that persisted throughout previous versions. There are upsides here, particularly with the port selection and overall design. The performance isn’t bad either, though you can get better performance out of cheaper machines with similar components. Those upsides unfortunately aren’t enough to counteract the issues with the laptop, especially at its high list price. The Omen 16 could be a good buy if you find one on sale for a steep discount, however. If you manage to find the laptop around $1,400 for a similar configuration, it’s a great deal. At $1,850, it’s too expensive for what’s on offer.

The HP Omen 16 (AMD 2023) isn’t a champion, but more of an underdog that managed to scrape by in all of the categories it competed in. It doesn’t have a great keyboard, and it gets pretty warm in not so nice areas, but apart from that, the Omen 16 is solid all around and worth getting for its current price. However, if you want a gaming laptop that really excels, we recommend picking up the Razer Blade 14. It features a more vivid display, longer battery life, and a more premium chassis. Problem with that though is the extra $1K you’d have to put out. Overall, the HP Omen 16 is a solid pick, especially if you’re looking for a big display with decent battery life in a gaming laptop.

The Omen 16 is a stable, well-built gaming laptop that delivers the right performance for both work and play – as long as you don’t have high expectations and can put up with some fan noise. Poor battery life can be forgiven, but you’ll still be running with the plug in most of the time.

The HP Omen 16 (16-wd0000) is a laptop that offers very good gaming performance but at the same time, its price isn’t high. Because of the potent cooling solution, the CPU can maintain stable and high frequencies even in long periods of max load. The GPU also can sustain 2565 MHz during gaming and the thermals are always in check. You can play heavy titles on Ultra details like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Borderlands 3, or Far Cry 6 with more than 70 FPS on average – not bad! The amount of ports is good but all USB connectors are rated at 5 Gbps. Still, we are pleasantly surprised by the battery life of this gaming device. Our machine has the base 70Wh unit that lasts for 11 hours and 7 minutes of Web browsing or 8 hours and 20 minutes of video playback. The HP Omen 16 (16-wd0000) can attract buyers with its PWM-free IPS display, good cooling solution, a comfortable keyboard, and long battery life.

It’s not the prettiest, fastest or best, it’s just missing when it doesn’t cost more than it does. Stable, well-built and delivers the right performance for both work and play as long as you don’t have high expectations and can put up with some fan noise. Poor battery life can be forgiven, but you’ll still be running with the plug in most of the time. A gaming PC for the people.

As specced, the OMEN 16 costs around Rs 1.5 lakh in India. For its asking price, the HP OMEN 16 is a superb gaming laptop that checks most boxes. It’s powerful enough to run most AAA games at high settings and 1080p resolution. It also features a snappy display that’ll allow gamers to make the most of eSports titles like Valorant and Apex Legends. I am in awe of its build quality and subtle design that doesn’t draw too much attention. The battery backup leaves much to be desired, though, and the laptop’s keyboard deck feels oddly cramped. Nevertheless, I highly recommend the OMEN 16 to budding gamers.

The HP Omen 16 2024 is a formidable contender in the gaming laptop arena, boasting impressive performance and premium features. Powered by a 14th gen Intel Core i7-14700HX processor and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, it delivers exceptional gaming prowess and productivity, outperforming even higher-tier models in its price segment. Despite its premium price tag of INR 1,49,999, the Omen 16 justifies its cost with its fantastic performance. Its 16.1-inch FHD display offers a smooth gaming experience, complemented by a respectable colour gamut coverage for content creation. Of course, there are still things to keep in mind before considering the HP Omen 16. The laptop features a subtle design so if you want a laptop that features “gamer aesthetics”, this isn’t it.
