Reviews for the HP Omen 16-wf000
The Omen 16 is back this year with an improved cooling solution that's larger and more efficient than before. It also happens to have one of the lowest starting prices we've seen for a GeForce RTX 4060 laptop at US$1100.

The HP Omen 16 is a good gaming laptop that represents a step up from budget gaming without traipsing into the $3,000+ for some of the best gaming laptops. Its Core i7 CPU and Nvidia 4080 GPU combo can easily handle your triple-A game titles. The only thing that sticks out for me is I found it too similar to the Victus 16, which could be a good thing if you’re moving up to a new level of gaming. However, I don't know if the performance boost is enough to warrant spending the extra money. The Omen’s display is an excellent selling point as it reproduces imagery beautifully, although according to our testing, it's not very bright, in real-world usage I found it sufficient, but be wary if you are often gaming in an overly bright environment. Overall, the HP Omen 16 is a fine premium gaming laptop to spend your weekend gaming on, but watch those add-ons if you are customizing as it can get expensive quickly.

HP has made some small compromises to keep the Omen 16 as affordable as possible - the screen could be brighter, and the limited battery life are disappointing, even when using integrated graphics. But the Omen delivers the goods for gaming, with a powerful processor and GPU that provide impressive gaming performance, while the high-refresh display provides smooth, detailed graphics that will help to give you a competitive edge.

With little to find fault about in its overall design, the refreshed HP Omen 16 is certainly a speedy gaming laptop. But considering our test unit's price, we can't help but be left wanting more. The build quality is decent, not amazing; the display is, well, average; and the battery life is unexceptional. Most crucially, while the HP delivers a steady high-end gaming experience, the comparably priced Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 handily outperforms it. When you spend more than $2,800 on a gaming rig, it should really blow the roof off, but the Omen lacks any real standout or marquee feature. A more affordable configuration much closer to the $1,149.99 base model might be a much better fit for you, but as is the Omen 16 falls short of Editors' Choice consideration.

Compared to last year’s configuration I reviewed with the AMD processor, the Intel HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop performed much better this year. The tweaks to the cooling system, latest components, and 16.1-inch 240Hz QHD display make for a solid gaming experience. While on the pricey side, you do definitely get what you pay for and the 2023 HP OMEN 16 gaming laptop should be a solid consideration if you’re in the market. As such, we’ve awarded it a Top Pick of 2023 Award here at Techaeris.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
