Google has announced that the Pixel Watch will be able to use its own first-party Home UI in advance. The full mobile device version of the same app also has a new UI now, intended to streamline access to a user's domestic accessories and equipment. It also has a dedicated automation tab intended to help make a home as smart on its own as possible.

Google's imminent first-gen Pixel Watch will be able to use its OEM's Home app, which can even be accessed from its watch-face via a dedicated little widget if the user prefers. Pressing it will bring up a list of shortcuts to control different devices and accessories around the home, which can even be sorted by room.

The Mountain View giant has unveiled "the new Google Home app experience" in a thread released by an official Twitter account. It reveals that the app will soon update to a new and more comprehensive UI, albeit one sorted neatly into 5 tabs: Favorites, Devices, Automations, Activity and Settings.

Their respective contents might be fairly intuitive; for example, alerts from things such as security cameras are likely to be found under Activity, whereas products such as the new Nest Wifi Pro or Doorbell are to be managed under Devices.

Then again, the re-design does put Automations front and center (literally), and might help a user with this aim for their dwelling. To this end, it also leads to Home's new Routines, in which the user can set one or more smart home thing to react to the behavior of another in the same way every time.

For example, the activation of motion sensors inside a bedroom could set off a Routine in which lights are dimmed, a thermostat adjusted and a speaker is switched on or off as the user wishes. Google also suggests that they could be used to schedule cameras or door-locks.

Therefore, this UI overhaul might make Google Home more of an everyday app and not just one that only gets opened when the Chromecast stops working properly. It may or may not come up again tomorrow (October 6, 2022) during Google's live unveiling of the Pixel 7 series and, of course, the Pixel Watch.
