Xiaomi Smart Speaker IR Control: Feature-packed smart speaker debuts in India at a budget price
Xiaomi has brought the Smart Speaker IR Control to India, having introduced the device last year in China. Available through third-party sellers since the spring, the Smart Speaker IR control measures 95 x 95 x 140 mm and weighs 628 g, in part because of its 1.5-inch driver.
Additionally, Xiaomi has included an LED Clock display and allows multiple speakers to operate in unison. Moreover, the Smart Speaker IR Control can serve as a Smart Home control centre and has built-in Google Assistant support. As such, the Smart Speaker IR Control is also compatible with Chromecast, allowing you to cast audio from laptops, smartphones and tablets.
Separately, Xiaomi has included the standard set of play/pause, volume up, volume down, and mute buttons on the speaker's top panel. Furthermore, the Smart Speaker IR Control contains two microphones with far-field voice wake-up support. Currently, Xiaomi sells the Smart Speaker IR Control in India for INR 4,999 (~US$63). Eventually, the smart speaker will retail for INR 5,999 (~US$75), although Xiaomi has not confirmed when this will be the case.
