Toro has unveiled a new robotic lawn mower that uses cameras in place of LiDAR for its localization system. The cameras mean you do not need to use a boundary wire to keep the mower in place, and the robot can use them for obstacle avoidance. You can control the gadget with an app and set a mowing schedule, which it can recommend based on the weather forecast.

Toro has launched a new robotic lawn mower. The company claims that the gadget has the industry’s first vision-based localization system, allowing the robot to move without needing boundary wires. The technology uses multiple cameras mounted on the device to map the yard and position itself; many similar devices use LiDAR for this purpose. The cameras can also be used to avoid obstacles such as trees and to navigate tight spaces.

The Smart Zones mowing system allows the mower to keep the lawn at the height of your choice by cutting a small amount of grass daily. You can control the Toro robot lawn mower through an accompanying app, which you can use to set a mowing schedule. The app can even recommend a mowing schedule based on your local weather forecast. The robot can move across various surfaces, allowing it to travel across a driveway or patio between two lawns.

The gadget can tackle inclines and has built-in anti-theft features, though further details of these tools are yet to be provided. Plus, the robot can mow quietly so as not to disturb you. The Toro robotic mower will go on sale in spring 2023, with pre-orders due to start in fall 2022. It is currently unclear how much the product will cost and in which markets it will launch. More information about the gadget, such as its battery life, is expected to be revealed in the coming months.
