Xiaomi Smart Speaker with IR control, Google Assistant and Chromecast is now orderable globally

The Xiaomi Smart Speaker with IR control is finally orderable globally, having been released last year in China. Also known by its model number, L05G, the smart speaker measures 95 x 95 x 14 mm and weighs 628g. Hence, it should be small and light enough to fit on most desks or side tables.

Not only does the L05G support inputs from IR remotes, it also has Chromecast built-in for Google Assistant. Accordingly, Xiaomi has included two microphones with far-field voice wake up support so you can control the speaker from across a room. Alternatively, the smart speaker has dedicated Play/Pause, volume up/down and mute buttons should you prefer not to use voice commands.

Moreover, the speaker has a 1.5-inch driver and a modem that supports Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11 ac Wi-Fi connectivity. Unfortunately, Xiaomi has only manufactured its smart speaker in one colour, unlike Amazon and Google. Currently, the L05G costs US$45.76, including free shipping to multiple countries. It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will sell the L05G directly, though.
