Humax has announced the Wi-Fi Smart Plug, its first smart home product. Like other smart plugs, you can use the gadget to control devices remotely. Plus, you can use the product to monitor your energy usage, providing in-app metrics such as current, power, voltage and total kWh. Humax says that this feature could help you to cut down on your energy bills.
Schedules can automatically switch appliances off or on at a particular time. You can connect to the plug via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and you can give access to the Wi-Fi Smart Plug to other household members.
The Smart Plug measures 55 x 55 x 58 mm (~2.2 x 2.2 x 2.3-in). You can set up and control your smart plugs using the Humax Smart Living App. Alternatively, you can control the plug using smart assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Humax is known for its set-top boxes, such as Android TV and Freeview boxes. This new product could signal a pivot for the company towards the smart home market, though it has not confirmed this.
You can now buy the Humax Wi-Fi Smart Plug in the UK for £14.95 (~US$19.62). At the time of writing, Humax has various multi-buy offers on the smart plug, such as buy 5 for £12.45 (~US$ 16.33) each. It is unclear whether or when Humax could make the device available in other markets.
