Genshin Impact 6.6 Luna VII launches May 20 with three new characters

Genshin Impact Version 6.6, titled Luna VII, launches on May 20, 2026. HoYoverse confirmed the update on May 8 alongside a full character reveal and a new Archon Quest trailer. The patch closes out the Nod-Krai arc and sets the stage for Snezhnaya, with three new playable characters, a pivotal story development, and a new weekly boss entering the rotation.
Version 6.5 ends May 19. All current Phase 2 banners for Nefer and Lauma, the Stygian Onslaught endgame challenge, and the Ley Line Overflow event all conclude on the same day. Players who have not finished those activities have a narrow window before the update locks them out.
Three new characters
Nicole Reeyn is the headline addition and one of the most anticipated characters in the game's history. She is the first playable member of the Hexenzirkel, the secretive society of Fontaine scholars who have appeared throughout the story since Version 4.0. Her codename within the group is "N," and her kit is built around Pyro Catalyst mechanics with Hexenzirkel buffs that carry across the team. She arrives in Phase 1 alongside the 4-star Anemo Catalyst Prune, the self-described "Witch Hunter" from Mondstadt, who provides off-field damage and support for Hexerei characters. Durin runs as a rerun in the same phase.
Lohen, the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius' Fifth Company, arrives in Phase 2 as a 5-star Cryo Polearm DPS. He is described in-game as stronger than Varka, the Knights' Grand Master. His kit consumes Joy and Will to Win, two distinct resources that drive his special Elemental Skill damage and enhance his Elemental Burst. After unlocking the Hexerei: Secret Rite effect, his Normal and Charged Attacks can deal additional damage based on accumulated Will to Win. Mavuika returns as the Phase 2 rerun alongside him.
Story and what changes in 6.6
The new Archon Quest returns to Sumeru. Nahida, the Dendro Archon, falls into an inexplicable slumber, pushing the nation toward chaos. A new antagonist appears who looks strikingly similar to Il Dottore, long believed to have been defeated during the Nod-Krai storyline. Whether this is the same Dottore, a copy, or something else is not clarified before launch. Completing the quest unlocks Dottore's second weekly boss fight and delivers 560 Primogems in rewards.
The update also adds Hexerei buffs for seven legacy Mondstadt characters, two new artifact sets, expanded Manikin actions across Teyvat for the photo mode system, a Klee-led mini-game event, and sports festival content through Miliastra Wonderland. The Version 6.6 special program also embedded a brief Snezhnaya teaser, hinting at what Version 7.0 will introduce when it launches on August 12, 2026.
Genshin Impact is free to play on iOS, Android, PC, and PlayStation 5. For more on gaming music this week, Notebookcheck spoke with Final Fantasy Tactics composer Hitoshi Sakimoto, who revealed the iconic FFT soundtrack is rooted in rock ahead of the Colors of Harmony concert.
