A new update has landed for several of Garmin's mid-range smartwatches. Distributed through its beta channel for now, the update contains important bug fixes aimed at resolving GPS and Connect activity issues present in earlier software.

A while has passed since Garmin issued Beta Version 17.00 for the Instinct 2 series, as well as the Instinct Crossover and variants like the Instinct 2 Solar (curr. $329.99 on Amazon). Specifically, the company released the update with a series of important bug fixes that centred around addressing charging issues.

Fast forward over three weeks and it has now gotten around to introducing a new build. Incidentally, Beta Version 17.01 is only the second public 17.xx update introduced so far. For reference, Beta Version 17.01 arrives as only the second update since Garmin flighted Stable Version 16.11 to the same smartwatches at the start of August. Nonetheless, the new update contains no new features.

Instead, Garmin continues to focus on resolving outstanding bugs. In this case, Beta Version 17.01 should fix an issue that could prevent Connect from showing which course was used during an activity. Additionally, the new update should prevent Connected Predicted Ephemeris (CPE) from appearing to be missing and displaying incorrect GPS versions, but only for the Instinct 2X and Instinct Crossover. Currently, Garmin is only distributing Beta Version 17.01 through its associated forum post. As such, one must download and install the update manually rather than pulling it from Garmin Connect Mobile or other over-the-air (OTA) services. Please see Garmin's forum post for more details.
