Mobvoi has now expanded its smartwatch lineup with a new so-called 'rugged' option. While Mobvoi advertises the TicWatch Atlas as its 'most rugged smartwatch yet', it seems that the device is merely a redesigned TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro.

Mobvoi had something of a relatively quiet summer after kicking off the season by announcing a refresh of the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro (curr. $349.99 on Amazon). Since then, the company has only rolled out Wear OS 4 for all TicWatch Pro 5 smartwatches. However, today's release of the TicWatch Atlas confirms that it was putting the finishing touches on a new option in its portfolio.

According to Mobvoi, the TicWatch Atlas is its 'most rugged smartwatch yet'. To that end, the company advertises its new smartwatches as follows:

Completely redesigned with beautifully sand-blasted steel, sapphire crystal display, it's the perfect blend of raw elegance and unstoppable durability at every angle. Dust, water, and impact resistant, this watch stays strong, supporting you every step of the way.

The truth is more complicated than the marketing spiel suggests, though. In short, there is nothing to suggest in Mobvoi's technical specifications that the TicWatch Atlas is any more or less 'rugged' than the TicWatch Pro 5 series. As the image below shows, the TicWatch Atlas appears to carry over all features from Mobvoi's fifth-generation smartwatches, save for Wear OS 4 being pre-installed instead of Wear OS 3.5.

Thus, the TicWatch Atlas is 5 ATM water resistant and is advertised as being MIL-STD-810H compliant; please note that MIL-STD test results are not independently verified. Moreover, Mobvoi's latest smartwatch has the same case construction, sapphire crystal display, and connectivity options as the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro.

On top of that, Mobvoi continues to install a Snapdragon W5 Plus Gen 1 chipset and a 628 mAh battery. In other words, the TicWatch Atlas is nothing more than a cosmetic refresh of the TicWatch Pro 5 series. Consequently, the TicWatch Atlas retails for $349.99, just like the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro.
