Garmin introduces over a dozen new features and improvements to mid-range smartwatch with latest software update

Garmin has released a new update for one of its popular smartwatches. Available on its Beta Program as Public Beta Version 21.14, the update is said to make over a dozen changes from the smartwatch's most recent stable update.

Around two weeks has elapsed since the Forerunner 265 received a new software update. To recap, Garmin issued Software Version 20.32 with a minor bug fix compared to Software Version 20.31 that preceded it. This time, the company has returned to its Beta Program with its first public 21.xx update.

As such, Public Beta Version 21.14 contains an abundance of changes. Specifically, Garmin has bundled thirteen bug fixes, new features and improvements, which it lists as follows:

  • Improvements to support pool swim workout with pace alerts and critical swim speed.
  • Improvements to the pool swim rest screen and alert tones.
  • Adds the Meditation activity.
  • Adds the Moon Phase glance.
  • Lactate Threshold estimates are applied automatically after training with heart rate.
  • Function Threshold Power estimates are applied automatically after training with power.
  • Fixed an issue where some types of daily suggested workouts do not show estimated training effect.
  • Fixed an issue where when the timer is set to silent mode, it still makes a sound.
  • Fixed an issue where Android smart notification images sometimes fail to load.
  • Fixed an issue where heart rate randomly spikes after activity is saved.
  • Fixed an issue where Navigation using map only adds turn icon for some sports profiles.
  • Updated Mobile Translations.
  • Added Meditation Videos.

According to Garmin's forum post, Public Beta Version 21.14 is undergoing a phased rollout through its over-the-air (OTA) services. However, it adds that 0% of eligible devices have received the update so far.

Nonetheless, you can jump the queue by navigating through Main menu, Settings, System, Software Update and tapping 'Check For Updates' to manually initiate the new update's download and installation on your Forerunner 265 (curr. $449.99 on Amazon). Please see Garmin's forum post for more details.
