Alienware has introduced the Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H), or AW2524H for short. Like the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP, the AW2524H is a small gaming monitor with an outrageous refresh rate. However, the AW2524H utilises a Fast IPS display rather than E-TN, which should result in superior viewing angles and colour accuracy. Accordingly, the monitor offers 178° vertical and horizontal viewing angles, plus 99% sRGB colour space coverage and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio.
Additionally, the AW2524H is VESA DisplayHDR 400 certified for up to 400 nits peak brightness and delivers 0.5 ms response times (GtG). By default, the 24.5-inch monitor will output at 480 Hz and 1080p, but Dell allows its refresh rate to be overclocked to 500 Hz over DisplayPort 1.4. While the AW2524H also has HDMI ports, Dell opted to include HDMI 2.1 TMDS, essentially a re-branded HDMI 2.0. As such, the AW2524H outputs at 1080p at 240 Hz when connected via HDMI. For reference, the AW2524H contains the following ports:
- 1x 3.5 mm audio in
- 1x 3.5 mm audio out
- 1x DisplayPort 1.4
- 2x HDMI 2.1 TMDS
- 1x Kensington lock slot
- 1x Power in
- 4x USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A
- 1x USB Type-B
Alienware's first 500 Hz gaming monitor will be available first in China, followed by North America. Unfortunately, Dell has not confirmed when the monitor will launch in other markets, such as Africa, Europe, or the Middle East. Currently, Dell hopes to begin selling the Alienware 500Hz Gaming Monitor (AW2524H) on February 8 in China and March 21 in North America. Dell will announce pricing for both markets later this quarter as both release dates approach.
