CES 2023 | Samsung Smart Monitor M8 refreshed with mouse support, new webcam, pivot functionality and a smaller display option
Samsung has upgraded the Smart Monitor M8, a monitor it presented last year. Billed as somewhat of an all-rounder, the Smart Monitor M8 can be used not only as a conventional external monitor but also as a Smart TV thanks to a Tizen-derived OS with game and video streaming apps. To that end, Samsung equipped the original Smart Monitor M8 with speakers and bundled a small Amazon Fire TV Stick-esque remote.
While the Smart Monitor M8 originally came in a single 32-inch size, Samsung has now introduced a smaller 27-inch version, mirroring its older Space Monitor series. The smaller Smart Monitor M8 retains its sibling's 4K resolution, corresponding to a higher pixel density. Both come in Daylight Blue, Spring Green, Sunset Pink or Warm White too, along with a height-adjustable stand with tilt support. Additionally, this year's Smart Monitor M8 series feature stands that can pivot by up 90 degrees, a feature missing from the original 32-inch version. Moreover, both sizes ship with VESA mounts, should you prefer not to use the included stand.
Furthermore, the Smart Monitor M8 series also supports mouse control functionality within SmartThings and Smart Hub, among other apps, which should provide greater convenience than on last year's version. Samsung claims to have added a new My Contents feature too that can show certain information at a glance, such as upcoming calendar entries. This year's Smart Monitor M8 monitor will ship with an upgraded SlimFit camera to boot, which now operates at 2K and is compatible with video conferencing apps like Google Meet. Samsung has not confirmed pricing or availability yet, but it took the company a few months to do so last year with the previous Smart Monitor M8.
