CES 2023 | Samsung Odyssey OLED G9: 49-inch QD OLED monitor with 240 Hz refresh rate
The latest Odyssey Neo G9 may caught the most attention with its cavernous display and high peak brightness, but Samsung has also introduced a second ultra-wide gaming monitor during CES 2023. As the image above demonstrates, that monitor is the Odyssey OLED G9, another 49-inch curved entry in the Odyssey series. While the Odyssey OLED G9 shares its panel size with the outgoing Odyssey Neo G9, it has a trick behind its ultra-wide exterior that even the new Odyssey Neo G9 lacks.
Specifically, Samsung has equipped the Odyssey OLED G9 with a QD OLED panel, which should deliver superior peak brightness than conventional OLED panels. QD OLED panels tend to reproduce colours more vibrantly when watching HDR content too, although Samsung has not shared any details about brightness figures yet. Still, the Odyssey OLED G9 is VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400 certified, meaning that it offers up to 400 nits of peak brightness and full area brightness of at least 250 nits. As with other OLED panels, the QD OLED panel in the Odyssey OLED G9 provides excellent response times, which Samsung claims are as low as 0.1 ms.
Additionally, the Odyssey OLED G9 operates natively at 5,120 x 1,440 pixels and 240 Hz, underlining its credentials as a high-end gaming monitor. Samsung has pre-installed its Gaming Hub software that supports NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Xbox Cloud Gaming though, should you lack a current generation games console or a gaming PC. Unfortunately, Samsung has not revealed a release date or pricing for the Odyssey OLED G9 yet.
